A 125 year-old family business

From our early childhood we grew up in the world of transport, as our father Nico van Duuren was the company’s managing director for more than 25 years.

In 1980 our family business was joint founder of the NPD (Nederlandse Pakket Dienst), with Parts Express being established at a later date. The company continued to grow, ultimately being sold to GLS in 2000. We joined the board of the Dutch division of GLS, which in that period had 16,000 trucks on the road in Europe delivering some 1 million consignments per day.

But despite the period with GLS being both interesting and inspiring, we missed the excitement of real entrepreneurship, where we could fully give vent to our passion for this fantastic business. So in 2004, via a management buy-out, we re-formed the Van Duuren company, where we together formed the management.

On reflection, we can say with certainty that this step has been more than successful. The company has grown far more quickly than we could have imagined, it is in a healthy condition and on the way to occupying a solid position as a pan-European transport service provider with, in the meantime, four branches. In addition to our office and cross-dock in Vianen and our office at Schiphol we also have offices in Barcelona and in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) .

Anchored in a rich history

Our company’s roots go a long way back in time. In 1892, the firm of Van Duuren was founded by our great-grandfather Nico van Duuren. A wonderful photo in our office reminds us of those early days.
