Septimiu Oltean, known as Septi to his friends, has been driving for Van Duuren since 2019. His routes primarily take him to France, the United Kingdom, and occasionally to Germany, Ireland, or Italy. “While on the road, I enjoy eating Belgian fries, but I wouldn’t say no to a real German schnitzel even if it meant waking me up in the middle of the night,” says the Romanian driver. “Sometimes, when I encounter a colleague in the parking lot, we make scrambled eggs together.” On average, Septi spends about two months away from home. “It’s a long time, but then I can spend about five weeks with my wife. We have a daughter together. Time flies: my ‘little girl’ is already 26.” One of the enjoyable aspects of his work is encountering wildlife, he continues. “Once, in the early morning near Birmingham, I saw a deer on a roundabout. The animal looked at me so peacefully. It’s a shame I didn’t have my phone handy to take a picture.”
